PDP lawmaker banned from politics for life for being an ex-convict

The chairman of an election petition tribunal sitting in Jos, Justice O O Akeredolu, has nullified the election of Vincent Bulus as member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing Langtang South. He also banned him from contesting for any election for life. This was after a candidate of the APC in the April 11 House of Assembly Election, Jackson Danladi, filed a petition before the Tribunal challenging the victory of Bulus in the election, alleging that he was an ex-convict.

While delivering judgement, the chairman of the tribunal said Bulus was not qualified to contest the election having been convicted of an offense involving fraud and dishonesty by a court of law. In 2013, EFCC arrested Bulus for allegedly impersonating a former Plateau State Governor, Fidelis Tapgun and duped a serving senator of N5m.

He was arrested at a First Bank of Nigeria Plc branch in Jos, while attempting to withdraw the sum of N2m sent to him as a bait by the serving senator whom he had earlier defrauded of N5m by claiming to be Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun.

Bulus’ undoing was his insistence to further milk the senator after collecting the initial N5m sent to him. His demand for another N2m got the senator suspicious which triggered a petition to the EFCC which then advised him to play along.
